Richest man from Africa, Aliko Dangote, for last seven years

Richest man from Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, is a Nigerian Tycoon and now the richest man from Africa for seven years in a row. Forbes Magazine which has been tracking global wealth reported that the tycoon is worth $12.2 billion. This means that his net worth has increased by $100 million compared to 2017. His company shares are traded at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

The magazine further reported that there are 23 billionaires in Africa. These are men and women who have hit over $1billion dollar mark. This is an increase from 21 billionaires in 2017. The new billionaires on the block are Desmond Sacco, Micheil Le Roux and Strive Masiyiwa. Welcome to 2018.

Nicky Oppenheimer from South Africa is the second richest man from Africa. His wealth is valued at $7.7 billion. His wealth has grown by $700 million when compared to 2017 value.

Women were not left behind in this list of 23. There are two of them. That is Folorunsho Alakija of Nigeria and Isabel Dos Santos of Angola.

The other richest men from Africa are: Christoffel Wiese, Johann Rupert, Onsi Sawiris, Mike Adenuga,  Nassef Sawiris, Stephen Saad, Mohammed Mansour, Yasseen Mansour, Aziz Akhannouch, Othman Benjelloun,Issad Rebrab, Mohammed Dewji, Koos Bekker, Youssef Mansour, Patrice Motsepe and Naguib Sawiris.

All these 23 dollar billionaires are from just 8 African countries. This means that there are 44 countries which do not have a dollar billionaire. It’s a sign of inequality in Africa. The following countries are represented with billionaires: Angola (1), Egypt (6), Nigeria (3); South Africa (8); Tanzania (1), Morocco (2), Algeria (1); and Zimbambwe (1).

Is your country represented? For our case, Kenya does not have a dollar billionaire in 2018. There is a vacancy out there. This is a noble cause I should work on. I’m willing to represent Kenyans on this list for half a century if no one is willing to do so. What will it take for you to be on this list representing your country as the richest man from Africa? Let’s know in the comments section below.

Strive Masiyiwa of Zimbabwe is a billionaire with investments in media and telecommunication sectors in African continent.

Desmond Sacco made most of wealth from gold and diamond. He was worth $680 million in 2014 but in 2018 he is now worth $1.1 billion.

Michel Le Roux generated most of his wealth from South Africa’s banking sector. This saw his wealth rise from $530 million in 2015 to $1.2 billion in 2018.
