Guinea Bissau president Umaro Sissoco Embalo has axed five government ministers, the BBC reports.
The ministers for energy, defence, agriculture, economy and interior were all dismissed in a decree on Sunday.
Mr Embalo did not give an explanation as to why the ministers were dismissed.
Their dismissal came ahead of a parliamentary debate on Monday on which political alliances have the right to govern the country.
Guinea-Bissau has been under political turmoil for a long time. Mr Embalo won the December 2019 election and the long-time ruling party PAIGC said the elections were rigged.
According to Reuters news agency, all the ministers who were axed are members of the president’s Madem-15 party.
It could be strategy for President Embalo to gain the majority in the Parliament.
There have been 9 attempted coups in the country since 1980.
Mr Embalo is determined to resolve tensions and modernize Guinea-Bissau, one of the world’s poorest countries.
