Tanzania president John Pombe Magufuli has announced that university students and final-year secondary students will return to class on 1st June.

Sporting events will also resume in June following a hiatus caused by the global coronavirus pandemic. All games including the country’s Premier League would return to action.

Other Secondary school and Primary school pupils will not be resuming classes yet.

Mr Magufuli’s announcement is a clear indication that the Tanzania is determined to go back to business as usual.

Educational institutions in Tanzania were closed in mid-March after the country confirmed its first coronavirus case.

Tanzania last announced daily statistics on Coronavirus late in April and president Magufuli insists that the country’s infection rates have significantly declined.

Tanzania has not imposed lockdown or strict restrictions to its citizens unlike its neighboring countries, though they are urged to wash hands, maintain social distance and wear face masks.
