Union Berlin have confirmed that the backroom staff and the first team squad have agreed to waive their salaries to help the club amid the COVID – 19 pandemic.

Union Berlin are playing in Germany’s top tier for the first time this season and are counting losses for not playing games with the Bundesliga suspended until April 30th due to Coronavirus epidemic.

President Dirk Zingler issued a statement: ‘’These are exceptional circumstances we have to deal with. Our clubs purpose is football. If it ceases to exist, then it will touch the core of our existence. ‘’

‘’The management, our staff and backroom staff have worked hard in recent months to ensure success in the Bundesliga. Now they are giving up a lot of money to get through this crisis together.

‘’This willingness cannot be credited highly enough to everyone involved. On behalf of the club’s entire management, I would like to thank them for their support.’’

Union Berlin sit 11th in the German Bundesliga table with 30 points after 25 outings.
