Prof. Lukoye Atwoli resigns as dean School of Medicine at Moi University

Professor Lukoye Atwoli, Dean School of Medicine at Moi University has resigned effective immediately.

A few hours after his resignation, Prof tweeted that:

“Friends: I have only left one office a year early. I will still do all the other things I’ve always done- teaching and supervising students, conducting research, and seeing patients when I can. Like the man said, friends, “Weep not for me, but for yourselves and your children!”

The good professor cited frustrations from university management as one of the reasons why he had to resign.

However, from the above tweet, it is clear that the professor intends to continue offering his services as a teacher and doctor as much as he can.

“I applied for the position of Professor at the Department of Mental Health at the end of 2017 and to this day, I have never been shortlisted or invited for an interview,” wrote professor Lukoye Atwoli.

According to Professor Lukoye, his frustrations have been going on for the last 18 months.

Professor Lukoye Atwoli further noted that he was not receiving support from School of Medicine Faculty and University management. Therefore, it seems that he was left in a tricky situation and had no options left other than to resign.

Professor Lukoye Atwoli is a columnist for the Daily Nation newspaper, mental health advocate, member of Kenya Medical Board and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Moi University.

Professor Lukoye Atwoli is a son of COTU Secretary General Brother Francis Atwoli.
