Kisumu County doesn’t care about mental health
When were recently analyzing the Kisumu County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2018-2022, we’re shocked on discovering that only Ksh. 3 million had been allocated towards mental health in Kisumu County. This is an allocation which definitely needs to be looked into during the mid-term review next year.
The case is not so different under the budget estimates for financial year 2019/2020. A paltry Ksh. 1.1 million has been proposed for mental healthcare in FY 2019/2020 budget estimates under the Public Health and Sanitation Services programme.
Mental health is the most poorly funded sub-program in many counties and even at the national level.
