Nairobi City County pays Ksh 1 billion as salaries every month

According to reports from Nairobi City County, a total of Ksh. 1.1 billion is paid out every month as remuneration of employees.

It was further revealed that the county has a heavy bottom workforce. The technical departments are understaffed while non-technical ones are overcrowded.

Statistics from the county reveal that natural attrition is taking its course considering that the county has lost 400 employees in 5 months.

According to the acting County Secretary, Pauline Kahiga, as at 31 January, 2019 the county had 12,034 employees and all of them are covered by health insurance by AAR.

Nairobi City County has more cleaners, inspectorate officers as well as casual laborers but still there is an ongoing recruitment of inspectorate staff.

“Nairobi County has aging staff, some of whom are sick, although it may not sound good to say so but that is the position,” said Meshack Guto, the CEO County Public Service Board.
