Good Friday, Holy Friday or Great Friday

Today is good Friday. What is all this about? That is the topic we are going to explore in this article.

Good Friday is a Christian Holiday commemorating the crucification of Jesus Christ and death at Calvary.

According to the Bible, soldiers guided by Judas Iscariot (who received 30 pieces of silver) arrested Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Matthew 26:14-16 reads that Judas had told the soldiers that the person he will kiss was the one to be arrested.

In Matthew 26:57-66 it is written that the high priest condemned Jesus for blasphemy. In the following day Jesus was presented before the Roman Governor Pontius Pirate for sentencing.

The son of God was charged for opposing taxes paid to Caesar and making himself a king among other charges. Hence he was sentenced to death by hanging on the cross according the Bible from John 18:31.

Pilate interrogated Jesus and found his not guilty. Upon learning that Jesus was from Galilee, he referred to case to King Herod but Jesus refused to speak. He was returned to Pilate who ordered that Jesus should be whipped and released. – Luke 23: 3-16.

The crowd gathered for the case demand for Barabbas to be released instead of Jesus. In addition to that, they demand that Jesus should be crucified.
