Arsene Wenger to receive highest honor from George Weah in Liberia

The immediate former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger arrived in Liberia on Thursday to a gallant reception by Liberian supporters. Arsense Wenger will be presented with Liberia’s highest honors by his former footballer and currently president of Liberia George Weah.

In 1988 Arsene Wenger signed George Weah with AS Monaco to play for the team. This year his fortunes changed when Weah was elected with a landslide election victory.

Arsene Wenger had a great influence in taking Weah to Europe for soccer. While in Europe he achieved a number of milestones including becoming a FIFA World Player of the Year in 1995 and before that he had played for AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain among others.

Arsene Wenger will be awarded the highest title which is Knight Grand Commander of Humane Order of African Redemption. This is in recognition of his great contribution towards creating many opportunities for Africans and contributing to sports in Africa.

While at the helm at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger was instrumental in developing the talents of Africa’s greatest footballers over a period of 30 years. A number of talented footballers such as Kolo Toure, Nwankwo Kanu and Emmanuel Adebayor have Wenger to thank for their success.

According to Arsene Wenger, President Weah has grown from a soccer player who had no influence in the world all the way to becoming the President. It has been a remarkable journey. He added that “The life of this guy is a real film. It is unbelievable. It can make a fantastic film.”
